Cold-capable! China bullet train runs 250km/h at a temperatures of -40°C

Meet the China bullet train which is designed to withstand temperatures as low as -40 °C/°F

The outer materials are chosen with better airtightness, which can keep out the snow and cold air

Designers also installed more sanding gear in the train, to prevent the wheels slipping in snowy weather

The CR400BF-G Fuxing trains started test running on China's easternmost high-speed line on Aug. 15

The 371-kilometer line links 8 cities of Mudanjiang and Jiamusi in northeast China's Heilongjiang province

It is designed for trains running at up to 250 kilometers per hour

Bridges and tunnels account for more than 50 percent of the whole rail, as well as 55 steep ramps

With the completion, it cuts travel time between Mudanjiang and Jiamusi from seven to two hours

After over a month-long test run, the route is expected to be ready for operation by the end of September
