Liberal MP Andrew Wallace says Australia "can't simply wait" to acquire nuclear submarines which were announced as part of the AUKUS arrangement.
"We can't simply wait to get these submarines for ... another two decades," Mr Wallace told Sky News host Catherine McGregor.
"The prime minister when he made this announcement said that the design would be started this decade with boats in the water starting next decade.
"That's great but we need to get them a lot sooner.
"That's not to suggest that our existing Collins class submarines are not capable, they are absolutely capable."
