US President Joe Biden will host the first-ever Quad leaders' summit at the White House on September 24 with Prime Minister Scott Morrison, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to attend in person.
The Australian Editor at Large Paul Kelly says the summit is a “tremendous opportunity” for Mr Morrison because “a number of things will happen”.
“This is what Scott Morrison has been working towards for a long period of time, it’s been one of the main objectives of Australian diplomacy,” Mr Kelly told Sky News Australian.
“There'll be extensive dialogue between President Biden and Prime Minister Morrison so that will be an opportunity to cement the personal relationship.
“And we’ll see on display Scott Morrison's approach here, which is to add value to the alliance - those talks will be dominated by strategic issues and the rise of China.”
