Concerning Divorce
Published at : October 01, 2021
we continue our series in the book of 1 Corinthians (7:10-16). The Apostle Paul wrote this to the church he had founded while on his second missionary journey.
The book of 1 Corinthians is vitally important for today. Within his letter the Apostle Paul reminded the church of their holy calling. And, expounded the truth that each member of the body of Christ must live a life separated from the world and unto God.
After Paul had dealt with numerous problems within the church, he then began to answer the questions they had concerning the Christian life.
In chapter seven, Paul answered their questions concerning marriage, divorce and singleness. The church wanted to know what the will of God was in regard to these matters.
The culture of Corinth was deeply depraved and engrossed in sexual deviancy and immorality. And, many of those who had come to Christ, had been raised in that environment. That was all they knew. Yet, according to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, many of them had come to an awareness that their Christian lifestyle was at odds with their life before Christ.
Under the inspiration and anointing of the Holy Spirit, Paul began to counsel the church concerning the perfect will of God. In detail, he described how the Christian was to live against the grain of conventional thinking of the present age. He told them these things so that they would continue to completely separate from the immorality of the culture. And, that they would to do that in light of Jesus’ imminent return.
As we go through this passage, may the Lord grant to us the revelation of the great price He paid, so we would be set free from the penalty and power of sin. And, to know that we know that when He returns, for the church, we will be set free, for all eternity, from the presence of sin.
I’ve entitled our series, in 1 Corinthians, “Living Upright in a Fallen World”. It is my prayer the Holy Spirit will ignite a fire in our hearts. And, a desire to burn brightly, for Him, in a world that is desperate to know the power of the Gospel.
Look forward to our time together. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the entire Calvary Chapel family.
There are several opportunities for worship. On campus (10:00am), drive-in church (92.1fm), and online (Facebook and YouTube: Calvary Inverness)
