Government will ‘stick with’ 2030 target from election

Energy Minister Angus Taylor says the government will not formalise a more ambitious 2030 emissions reductions target, despite projections estimating the current target will be beaten.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Tuesday the country is projected to reduce emissions by 35 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030, with the current target set at 26 – 28 per cent.
Mr Taylor said the target would not be moved because the government “set a target, which we went to the last election with, and we won the election.”
“Labor had a 45 per cent, they lost the election, and the Australian people expect us to stick with that target.”
