COP26: 'Our children and grandchildren will not forgive us if we fail them today'

The EU’s climate policy chief gave a passionate speech at COP26 in response to the first interventions, telling the delegates their children and grandchildren “will not forgive us if we fail them today”.

Frans Timmermans said they were "at risk of stumbling in this marathon a couple of metres before reaching the finishing line".

"Think of one person in your life that will still be around in 2030 and how they will live if we do not stick to the 1.5C here today," he said.
