What is medicinal chemistry - Medicinal Chemistry 0.0

Medicinal chemistry focuses on designing, creating and refining molecules and output drug-like agents that can be tested for their abilities to reduce disease-like symptoms in a preclinical and clinical setting. The interdisciplinary subject spans chemistry, biology and pharmacology. The two most important subjects are synthetic organic chemistry and pharmacology.

Synthetic chemistry and modern organic chemistry are the ground of medicinal chemistry because a medicinal chemist’s main responsibility is combining small molecules to create new ones. Pharmacology is important another area that deals with actions of the drugs on the body and the fate of the drugs in the body. The two main areas of pharmacology are pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

I am a computational chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. I created the Mole Man Chem channel to explain some basic medicinal and biochemistry concepts because I believe the best way to relearn a concept is through teaching.
