This is why Sindri couldn't forgive Atreus in God of War Ragnarök
Published at : December 04, 2022
God of War Ragnarök Director Eric Williams explains why Sindri could not forgive Atreus or Kratos. Sindri was a kind person who decided to use all his talents to help Kratos and Atreus on their quest to free Týr, the Norse god of war.
However, Odin disguised himself as Tyr, used Atreus to enter Sindri's home on the World Tree Yggdrasil, and killed Sindri's brother Brok. Sindri blamed Kratos and Atreus for not only Brok's death but also for abusing their friendship. Sindri never forgave Kratos or Atreus even after Brok's funeral.
Eric Williams explained that this was designed to illustrate the fact that some relationships can remain broken forever and that not all stories get a happy ending. In contrast, the Vanir goddess and Queen of the Valkyries, Freya, forgave Kratos, to a certain extent, for killing her son Baldur.
In addition, a small detail that was never addressed was Sindri's role in Baldur's death. Sindri was the one who gave Atreus the mistletoe arrows which ultimately led to Baldur losing his immortality. But his relationship with Freya did not seem to suffer because of it.
